Artistic Director: Jordan Marinov
Marinov Dance was founded in 2009 as a result of winning a space grant from Chashama, the Fashion Center BID, Times Square Alliance and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Since its inception, Marinov Dance has made visually stunning dance theatre works that evoke emotion and vulnerability. Marinov Dance has performed its repertory in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Chicago, New Mexico and Mexico City.
Jordan is currently Artistic Director of Marinov Dance which is currently working on a full evening length Dance Theatre piece to Verdi's requiem in partnership with a major orchestra. Jordan created and choreographed the Virtual Reality film Shades of Red with soloist Georgina Pazcoguin and actress Alysia Reiner about sexual assault which screened with the ACLU. M Dance premiered pavement woman in San Francisco and Los Angeles about recovering from a car accident. Jordan was commissioned to create an original work for the students of Loyola Marymount University and adjudicated a dance short film festival for the University of South Florida. Jordan completed two dance films with Bill Hayward entitled Beauty Is No Show and Asphalt, Muscle and Bone which won several awards in European film festivals. Other film credits include Dream of a Dance, directed by Jolie Oliver and a yoga scene in an HBO Pilot A Miraculous Year directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
Marinov Dance created The Intimacies Project: a series of daring multi-media events about relationships and the impossibility of love in collaboration with Bill Hayward. The Intimacies Project film was screened at Tribeca Grand in New York City during Fashion’s Night Out and the project earned a space grant from Chashama, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, The Fashion Center BID, and the Times Square Alliance to perform two shows per day in NYC for two weeks. Marinov Dance was commissioned to set work and perform at the Rio Grande Theatre. The company performed in the Margulies Gallery in Miami for the Wynwood Art Festival. Marinov Dance appears in Bill Hayward's book Chasing Dragons which is being sold at numerous bookstores around the country including the MOMA bookstore in NYC.
Marinov Dance debuted Mother’s Kitchen, a collaboration that includes portraits from Bill Hayward via Skype and live dance based on stories from people’s childhoods in Miami for the Art Live Fair and performed an excerpt of the same piece in Los Angeles the following week at the Electric Lodge Theater.
